We went behind the brand to find out more…

When did you launch the brand and what was the reason behind it?

Meena was launched in 2014.

Meena is all about women – I want to embrace women, unite them through our designs and enable them to feel confident and promote that confidence through a sense of strength, unity and love. Which is why I use these words in the linings of every Meena piece.

I want to encourage the feeling of confidence by creating striking ready-to-wear that promotes women’s inner strength. The clothes you choose to wear and how you wear them give you your unique voice – this voice lets you express and showcase your real, authentic self and more importantly celebrate your existence. It was with this conviction, that I was encouraged to create Meena – a brand to inspire, empower and unite women through design.

Whats your background?

I was born and raised in London. I first studied in the London college of fashion, I then left to pursue a business degree to gain the skills I knew I would need to pursue the business side of fashion. I then continued my studies with a master’s in business and marketing. I moved to Dubai in 2014 and worked as a Marketing Manager for my brothers IT company, In 2014 I then decided this was the perfect time to begin Meena. I have two amazing daughters, that make my world a better place and are my biggest supporters.

If you could start over with the business, would you do anything differently?

I think every mistake has been a learning process, and it has helped me to shape the business in a way that’s helping us to grow in consistent steps. It has been an amazing experience and the failures have definitely come with silver linings.

What is the hardest challenge you have faced since you started the company?

It has definitely been trying to focus my ideas and keep them in check, it’s easy to want to design everything and anything but focusing on the brand ethos and dna and who we are and what message we want to send out has been a challenge.

Tell us one fact about you that people wouldn’t know?

I am a 2nd Dan black belt in karate and a black belt in jujitsu.

2017 is here, where do you plan on taking the brand?

We have been expanding into different regions this year which has been great, I plan on expanding the brand internationally and that includes growing our awareness globally.

To date, what has been the highlight since launching?

This fashion label has been a dream since I was very young age and seeing this brand come into reality has been so amazing. Developing from an idea and vision to a realization, it has been wonderful seeing the growth and having happy customers. Seeing women respond so well to our pieces and complement the quality and details that we pride ourselves on, has been very much a highlight.

Which city do you feel most at home in, London, Paris or New York?

London, its where I was born and lived for 30 years, it will always be my home.

Three beauty products you can’t leave the house without?

Charlotte tilbury mascara, nars concealer, Anastasia dipbrow and Dior lip shine, haha that’s 4 ☺

Style means….?

Being yourself, knowing who you are and expressing it through your clothes, accessories and manners.

I do believe simplicity is key – using your style to highlight who you are and not allowing your choice of clothes to smother your personality. Style is about the woman that wears the clothes not about the clothes themselves. We all have different shapes and skin colours and everyone is beautiful in their own way, but wearing clothes that make you feel good can give you a sense of confidence and strength, highlighting your inner beauty. Paying attention to the right fit, a good cut and a colour that complements your skin and hair are the underlying elements to help you feel beautiful and confident with your look.

Best thing about London to you?

The people. The international vibe that is so inspiring. Seeing different peoples of different cultures coming together in one place.

Statement shoe or statement bag?

Statement shoe! I have a rather larger shoe collection then I would like to admit. I think shoes definitely complete an outfit and can change a look from day to night easily.

If you had to, what piece of clothing from your wardrobe would you wear everyday?

My black Meena blazer, it is both comfortable and classic, I attached a few chains on the back to give it a distinct characteristic. As a working mother, I am constantly on the go and need to be comfortable and also ready for a day of work. I throw it over trousers, dresses or jumpsuits, my outfit usually has to take me from day to knight.

Favourite love song?

It would be a toss-up between Bed of Roses by Bonjovi and When a man loves a woman by Michael Bolton. Corny I know, I went to one of his concerts in the albert hall a few years back, I was the youngest person there by about 100 years, but it was absolutely brilliant!

Best place for a coffee?

Any place, any day, every day. I am partial to a good cappuccino or else just a black coffee, I think my blood type is actually coffee.

Most memorable piece of advice given to you?

Life is not about what you want. This has taken me years to understand what it truly means. At first I thought that’s not very nice, but then I realized that life is truly not about what you want, but about what needs to be done. It is about hard work, dedication, ethics and discipline in all areas of your life, leading to your progress and growth both mentally and physically. To approach your life with a purpose of greatness. To be the best possible version of yourself. To do the best you can in all areas of your life and in making the world a better place, not just in words but in actions. By shining your light in this world and becoming an example to those around you.

Guilty pleasure?

Gummy bears! I could eat them for every meal, every day!

If you could spend 24 hours in anywhere in the world, where would it be?
Paris, it’s a beautiful city and its definitely a city that makes me feel inspired.
